[Kiyoto Hoshika × sCenes] Black Lip Mother-of-Pearl Stand Tray - Not Classified ※Sales begin August 27 at 8 PM
The black-lip mother-of-pearl stand tray was crafted by Kiyoto Hoshika, a recorder and flute maker, whom we asked to produce the stand.
The tray uses black-lip mother-of-pearl from Tahiti, processed by sCenes to intentionally retain the shell's natural shape.
The stand is made using the same method as woodwind instrument production, where wood is rotated and carved using a machine called a wood lathe.
The design resembles an inverted display stand for COLLECTIBLE PEARL, with sharp edges throughout, and the beautiful curves extending from the corners, characteristic of handwork, are truly wonderful. The delicate grooves also strike a nice balance.
Maple is a wood used for instruments like recorders, offering a smooth, pleasant feel and a silky luster.
The natural color of the wood is preserved without oil finishing, highlighting the attractive pale color of maple.
Each black-lip mother-of-pearl shell has a unique appearance.
While observing the condition of the raw shell, we remove fragile, unnecessary layers from the edges and file down any sharp parts. For the nacre layer on the back, we remove attachments and fragile layers, processing the shell as close to its natural state as possible.
As a final step, a polymer is applied as a protective measure to prevent drying.
It can be used to place rings or earrings after wear, or displayed as an object in a cabinet.
Please use it as you like.

MATERIALMaple (natural), black-lip mother-of-pearl
SIZEOverall dimensions: W approx. 11.5cm × D approx. 11.5cm × H approx. 7cm (Stand: W 3.8cm × H 5.3cm)
Care Instructions
■ The maple (natural) stand has an unfinished (no oil) surface. It is carved from well-dried wood, making it resistant to cracking, but it will be prone to absorbing moisture and oil. When cleaning, wipe with a dry cloth. If it gets dirty, wipe with a tightly wrung damp cloth and allow it to dry completely.
■ The nacre side (contact surface) of the shell tray is unfinished. Similar to pearls, acidic substances can damage its luster, so if any come into contact, wipe them off immediately with a soft cloth.
Important Notes
・ The stand is made from natural wood and each piece is handcrafted, so please be aware that there may be slight individual differences.
・ Scratches, holes, or cracks may be visible on the inner surface or edges of the shell. These are either natural or minor imperfections from the cutting process. The back side is finished close to its raw state and may have small naturally occurring attachments. If you are concerned about this, please refrain from purchasing.
・ Although a polymer (ingredients: silicone, etc.) is applied to the nacre layer on the back side of the shell (the black side) to prevent drying, prolonged exposure to UV light or aging may reduce the effectiveness of the protective coating.
・ The nacre layer on the back has had fragile layers removed and polymer applied, but it is not solidified, so layers may chip or come off. Please be aware of this.
・ The edges and sharp parts of the shell have been filed, but please handle with care when touching it.
・ Due to the weight of the shell, the stand has a wide base but is relatively easy to tip over. Please handle with care.
・ Do not place heavy or large items on it.
*Each pearl sometimes has blemishes and flaws on the surface which actually indicate that a pearl is authentic. *For any enquiries and further information about our products, please do not hesitate to contact us before the purchase. *The pearls and jewelries on the image may slightly differ from their actual color, texture and design due to the display resolution on different devices.
