*What are Keshi pearls?
Keshi pearls are pearls that are accidentally formed when a foreign object, such as a grain of sand, irritates the shell of an oyster producing cultured pearls.
The foreign object slightly injures the inside of the shell, causing pearl-producing cells to enter and form nacre layers.
While regular pearls are formed by inserting a round nucleus around which nacre layers are wrapped, Keshi pearls lack this nucleus, resulting in a unique, natural form.
However, most Keshi pearls have blemishes or protrusions, and it is rare to find ones that are round or of beautifully uniform quality.
