[Kiyoto Hoshika × sCenes] Black-lip Mother-of-Pearl Tray - Ebony *Sales begin January 4th at 8 PM
This is a black-lipped pearl shell stand tray, for which I asked Kiyoto Hoshika, a recorder and flute maker, to make the stand.
The tray was processed by sCenes, using black-lipped pearl shell from Tahiti, intentionally preserving the natural shape of the shell.
The stand is made using the same method as woodwind instrument manufacturing, where wood is rotated and carved using a machine called a wood lathe.
Its design is like an inverted specimen stand for COLLECTIBLE PEARL, with sharp edges throughout, and the beautiful curves extending from the corners, characteristic of handcraftsmanship, are wonderful, and the intricate groove details are also well-balanced.
This stand is made from a wood called "ebony," which is a very dense, heavy, and hard material. It takes a very long time to cut, making it a high-grade material among the woods used for recorders and other instruments.
Due to its high specific gravity, it has been used since ancient times for instruments such as recorders, flutes, and clarinets, as well as crafts like chopsticks and cigar boxes. Its lustrous shine is captivating.
While the dark brown of maple is painted, this one was finished in its natural color, unpainted and solid.
Since it is a very difficult material to process, only "one" was made available for sale this time.
You can place rings and earrings after wearing them, or display it as an objet d'art in a cabinet.

Recorder/Flute Maker: Kiyoto Hoshika
Learned manufacturing techniques from 1980 and began his career as a recorder maker in 1984.
He produces recorders and flutes used in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, tuned to historical temperaments.
His high-quality works, exhibited at instrument exhibitions in Belgium, are cherished by performers and orchestras worldwide, as well as professionals at historical archives and museums.

Care Instructions
■The stand has an unfinished (no oil) surface. It is carved from thoroughly dried wood, making it less prone to cracking, but it will readily absorb moisture and oils. For maintenance, wipe with a dry cloth. If dirt adheres, wipe with a tightly wrung damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
■The nacre side (top surface) of the shell tray is unpainted. Similar to pearls, acidic substances can cause the luster to fade, so if any comes into contact, wipe it off immediately with a soft cloth.
Precautions
・Please note that as each stand is made by hand from natural wood, there may be slight individual differences.
・Scratches, holes, and cracks may be seen on the inner surface and edges of the shell, but these are either naturally occurring or minor ones resulting from the cutting process. The back side is also finished close to its natural state, and may have fine naturally occurring deposits. If you are concerned, please refrain from purchasing.
・Polymers (ingredients: silicone, etc.) are applied to the nacreous layer (black side) on the back of the shell to prevent drying, but prolonged exposure to UV light or aging may weaken the protective film's effect.
・While the fragile layer of the nacreous layer on the back has been removed and polymer applied, it is not hardened, so layers may chip or come off. Please be aware of this.
・Although the edges and sharp parts of the shell are ground, please handle with care when touching.
・Due to the weight of the shell, the stand has a wide base, but it is relatively easy to tip over. Please handle with care.
・Do not place heavy or large items on it.
