【Kiyoto Hoshika × sCenes】Black-lipped Mother-of-Pearl Tray - BR *Sales start January 4th at 8 PM
This black-lipped pearl shell stand tray was commissioned from recorder and flute maker Kiyoto Hoshika.
The tray itself is made from black-lipped pearl shell sourced from Tahiti, processed by sCenes to intentionally preserve the natural shape of the shell.
The stand is crafted using the same method as woodwind instruments, where a woodworking lathe is used to shave down wood while it rotates.
Its design resembles an inverted specimen stand for COLLECTIBLE PEARL. While incorporating sharp edges throughout, the beautiful curves extending from the corners, a hallmark of handmade craftsmanship, are truly exquisite, and the detailed fine grooves are perfectly balanced.
Maple, used in recorders, is a smooth wood with a pleasant feel and a silky luster.
This stand has been painted dark brown and finished with linseed oil, also used in recorder making.
It's perfect for holding rings or earrings after wear, or as an ornamental object inside a cabinet. Use it as you please.
More detailed information is available on the feature page.

MATERIAL Maple (natural), Black-lipped Pearl Shell
SIZE Overall size: W approx. 11.2cm x D approx. 11.2cm x H approx. 7.5cm (Stand: W 3.8cm x H 5.5cm)
Care Instructions
■ The maple (dark brown) stand has an oil finish. For daily care, wipe with a dry cloth or a firmly wrung-out cloth. If it feels dry over time, apply oil maintenance and allow it to dry completely.
■ The nacreous layer (surface in use) of the shell tray is uncoated. Like pearls, if acidic substances come into contact with it, the luster may be lost. If this happens, promptly wipe it with a soft cloth.
Precautions
・Since the stand is made of natural wood and crafted by hand, please note that there may be slight individual differences.
・Each black-lipped pearl shell has a unique appearance, so please refer to the images before purchasing.
・Scratches, holes, and cracks may be observed on the inner surface or edges of the shell. These are either natural variations or minor marks from cutting. The back side is finished close to its natural state, and may have small naturally occurring deposits. If you are concerned about this, please refrain from purchasing.
・A polymer (ingredients: silicone, etc.) is applied to the periostracum (black side) of the shell to prevent drying, but prolonged exposure to UV light or age-related deterioration may weaken the protective film's effect.
・While brittle layers are removed and polymer applied to the periostracum on the back, it is not solidified, so layers may chip or detach. Please be aware of this.
・The edges and sharp parts of the shell have been smoothed, but please handle with care when touching it.
・Due to the weight of the shell, the stand has a wide base but is relatively easy to tip over. Please handle with care.
・Do not place heavy or large items on it.
*Each pearl sometimes has blemishes and flaws on the surface which actually indicate that a pearl is authentic. *For any enquiries and further information about our products, please do not hesitate to contact us before the purchase. *The pearls and jewelries on the image may slightly differ from their actual color, texture and design due to the display resolution on different devices.
