[Kiyoto Hoshika × sCenes] Black Lip Mother-of-Pearl Stand Tray - NC *Sales begin August 27th at 8 PM (JST)
This black-lip mother-of-pearl stand tray was commissioned from recorder and flute maker, Kiyoto Hoshika.
sCenes processed the tray using Tahitian black-lip mother-of-pearl, deliberately preserving the natural shape of the shell.
The stand is crafted using the same method as woodwind instruments, where wood is rotated and carved on a wood lathe.
The design, resembling an inverted display stand for COLLECTIBLE PEARL, features sharp edges throughout, while the beautiful curves extending from the corners, characteristic of handcrafted work, are truly exquisite. The detailed grooves also strike a nice balance.
Maple, a wood used for recorders, is smooth to the touch and has a silky luster.
This piece retains the natural color of the wood and is finished without oiling, making the whitish hue of the maple particularly appealing.
Each black-lip mother-of-pearl has a unique appearance.
While observing the condition of the original shell, fragile excess layers on the edges are removed, sharp areas are shaved off, and the nacreous layer on the back is also processed to remove adhering substances and fragile layers, making it as close to the shell's natural state as possible.
Finally, a polymer is applied as a protective coating to prevent drying.
It can be used to place rings or earrings after wearing, or displayed as an objet d'art in a cabinet.
Please use it as you prefer.

MATERIAL Maple (natural), black-lip mother-of-pearl
SIZE Overall dimensions: W approx. 10cm × D approx. 10.5cm × H approx. 7.5cm (Stand: W 3.8cm × H 5.5cm)
Care Instructions
■ The stand made of natural maple is finished without coating (no oil). It is carved from thoroughly dried wood, making it less prone to cracking, but it can absorb moisture and oils easily. When cleaning, wipe with a dry cloth. If dirt becomes attached, wipe with a tightly wrung damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
■ The nacreous side (used surface) of the shell tray is uncoated. Like pearls, acidic substances can dull its luster, so if they come into contact, wipe immediately with a soft cloth.
Precautions
・Since the stand is made from natural wood and crafted by hand, please note that there may be slight individual differences.
・Scratches, holes, or cracks may be visible on the inner surface or edges of the shell. These are either natural occurrences or minor imperfections resulting from the cutting process. The back of the shell is also finished in a state close to the original shell, and may have fine natural adhering substances. If you are concerned about this, please refrain from purchasing.
・Although a polymer (ingredients: silicone, etc.) is applied to the nacreous layer on the back (the black side) of the shell to prevent drying, its protective effect may weaken due to prolonged exposure to UV light or aging.
・While fragile layers have been removed from the nacreous layer on the back and polymer applied, it is not solidified, so please be aware that layers may chip or break off.
・Although the edges and sharp parts of the shell have been smoothed, please handle with care when touching it.
・Due to the weight of the shell, the stand has a wide base but is relatively easy to tip over. Please handle with care.
・Do not place heavy or large objects on it.
