[Kiyoto Hoshika × sCenes] Black-lipped Mother-of-Pearl Tray - BR *Sales begin January 4th at 8:00 PM (JST)

This is a black-lipped mother-of-pearl stand tray for which we commissioned recorder and flute maker Kiyoto Hoshika to create the stand.
The tray was made by sCenes using black-lipped mother-of-pearl from Tahiti, intentionally preserving the natural shape of the shell.

The stand is made using the same method as woodwind instrument manufacturing, where wood is rotated and carved using a machine called a wood lathe.
The design is like an inverted specimen stand for COLLECTIBLE PEARL, with sharp edges throughout. The beautiful curves extending from the corners, characteristic of handcrafted items, are wonderful, and the detailed fine grooves are also exquisitely done.

Maple, a wood used for recorders, is smooth and pleasant to the touch, with a silky luster.
This one has been painted dark brown and finished with linseed oil, which is also used in recorder making.

You can place rings or earrings on it after wearing them, or display it as an objet d'art in a cabinet.
Please use it as you like.

More detailed information can be found on the feature page.

MATERIAL Maple (Natural), Black-lipped mother-of-pearl

SIZE Overall size: W approx. 12.2cm × D approx. 11.6cm × H approx. 8cm (Stand: W3.8cm × H5.5cm)

Care Instructions
■ The maple (dark brown) stand has an oil finish. For daily care, wipe it with a dry cloth or a firmly wrung-out cloth. If it feels dry over time, apply oil maintenance and allow it to dry thoroughly.
■ The nacre side (inner surface) of the shell tray is unpainted. As with pearls, if acidic substances come into contact with it, the luster may be lost. If this happens, promptly wipe it off with a soft cloth.

Precautions
・Since the stand is made from natural wood and handcrafted one by one, please note that there may be slight individual differences.
・Each black-lipped mother-of-pearl shell has a unique appearance, so please refer to the images when purchasing.
・Scratches, holes, or cracks may be visible on the inner surface or edges of the shell. These are either naturally occurring or minor imperfections from the cutting process. The back side is finished in a state close to the raw shell, and there may be small natural deposits. If you are concerned about this, please refrain from purchasing.
・The back of the shell (the black part) has a polymer (ingredients: silicone, etc.) applied to prevent drying, but prolonged exposure to UV light or aging may weaken the protective film's effectiveness.
・The periostracum layer on the back has had brittle layers removed and polymer applied, but it is not solidified, so please be aware that layers may chip or come off.
・The edges and sharp parts of the shell have been sanded, but please handle with care when touching them.
・Due to the weight of the shell, the stand has been made wide, but it is still relatively easy to tip over. Please handle with care.
・Do not place heavy or large objects on it.
