【Kiyoto Hoshika × sCenes】Black Mother-of-Pearl Stand Tray - BR *Sales begin August 27th at 8 PM
This black-lipped oyster shell stand tray was commissioned from recorder and flute maker Kiyoto Hoshika.
The tray itself is made from Tahitian black-lipped oyster shell, processed by sCenes to intentionally preserve the shell's natural shape.
The stand is made using the same method as woodwind instruments, carved by rotating wood on a wood lathe.
Designed like an inverted display stand for COLLECTIBLE PEARL, it features sharp edges throughout, yet the beautiful curves extending from the corners, characteristic of handcrafted items, are truly superb. The detailed grooves also feel just right.
Maple, the wood used for recorders, is smooth to the touch and has a silky luster.
This particular stand is painted dark brown and finished with linseed oil, also used in recorder making.
Each black-lipped oyster shell has a unique appearance.
While observing the raw shell's condition, we remove brittle, unnecessary layers from the edges and file down any sharp parts. For the nacre layer on the back, we remove any adhering substances and fragile layers, processing it as close as possible to its natural state.
For finishing, a polymer is applied as protection to prevent drying.
You can use it to place rings or earrings after wearing them, or display it as an objet d'art in a cabinet.
Please use it as you like.
More detailed information can be found on the special feature page.

MATERIALMaple (dark brown), black-lipped oyster shell
SIZEOverall size: W approximately 12.5cm × D approximately 12cm × H approximately 8cm (Stand: W3.8cm × H5.5cm)
Care Instructions
■The maple (dark brown) stand has an oil finish. For daily cleaning, wipe with a dry cloth or a firmly wrung-out cloth. If it becomes dry over time, apply oil for maintenance and allow it to dry thoroughly.
■The nacre side (top surface) of the shell tray is uncoated. Like pearls, acidic substances can damage its luster, so if any comes into contact, promptly wipe it off with a soft cloth.
Precautions
・The stands are made from natural wood and crafted by hand, so please note that there will be slight individual differences.
・Scratches, holes, and cracks may be visible on the inner surface and edges of the shell; these are either natural or minor imperfections from the cutting process. The back of the shell is also finished close to its raw state, and small natural deposits may be present. If you are concerned about these, please refrain from purchasing.
・Although the nacre layer on the back (the black side) of the shell is coated with a polymer (ingredients: silicone, etc.) to prevent drying, prolonged exposure to UV light or aging may weaken the protective film's effectiveness.
・While the brittle layers of the nacre layer on the back have been removed and a polymer applied, it is not solidified, so layers may chip or come off. Please be aware of this.
・The edges and sharp parts of the shell have been filed, but please handle with care when touching.
・Due to the weight of the shell, the stand has a wide base, but it is still relatively easy to tip over. Please handle with care.
・Do not place heavy or large objects on it.
