This black-lip mother-of-pearl stand tray was commissioned from Kiyoto Hoshika, a recorder and flute maker.
The tray is made from Tahitian black-lip mother-of-pearl, and sCenes processed it to deliberately retain the shell's natural shape.
The stand is crafted using the same method as woodwind instruments, where a wooden lathe rotates and carves the wood. Its design resembles an inverted specimen stand for COLLECTIBLE PEARL. The sharp edges throughout, combined with the beautiful curves extending from the corners—a hallmark of handcrafted work—are truly exquisite, and the subtle details of the fine grooves are also perfectly balanced.
Maple, the wood used for recorders, is smooth to the touch and has a silky luster. This stand highlights the natural color of the wood, finished without oil painting, making its pale maple hue particularly appealing.
It's perfect for holding rings or earrings after wear, or as a decorative object inside a cabinet. Please use it as you like.

Recorder & Flute Maker: Kiyoto Hoshika
He began learning manufacturing techniques in 1980 and embarked on his path as a recorder maker in 1984. He produces recorders and flutes used in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, tuned to historical temperaments. His high-quality works are exhibited at instrument shows in Belgium and are cherished by performers, symphony orchestras, and professionals at historical document museums worldwide.

Care Instructions
■ The stand has an unfinished (no oil) surface. It is carved from thoroughly dried wood, making it resistant to cracking, but it can absorb moisture and oils easily. When cleaning, wipe it with a dry cloth. If it gets dirty, wipe it with a tightly wrung damp cloth and let it dry completely.
■ The nacre (inner surface) of the shell tray is unfinished. Like pearls, contact with acidic substances may dull its luster. If this occurs, promptly wipe it with a soft cloth.
Precautions
・Since the stand is made of natural wood and handcrafted one by one, please note that there may be slight individual differences.
・Each black-lip mother-of-pearl shell has a unique appearance, so please refer to the images before purchasing.
・Scratches, holes, or cracks may be visible on the inner surface and edges of the shell. These are either natural imperfections or minor marks from the cutting process. The back side is also finished close to its natural state, and may have fine natural deposits. If you are concerned about these, please refrain from purchasing.
・The dark, outer layer (periostracum) on the back of the shell is coated with a polymer (ingredients: silicone, etc.) to prevent drying, but prolonged exposure to UV light or deterioration over time may weaken the protective film's effectiveness.
・While the brittle layer of the periostracum on the back is removed and coated with a polymer, it is not solidified, so layers may chip or come off. Please be aware of this.
・The edges and sharp parts of the shell are smoothed, but please handle with care when touching them.
・Due to the weight of the shell, the stand has a wide base, but it is relatively easy to tip over. Please handle with caution.
・Do not place heavy or large items on it.
